Things you won’t regret doing

I call the highschool years of parenting The Great Crescendo, when all the after-school activities increase and expand into a giant, swirling dance. It was during these years that I was growing my yoga practice. After wrapping up work, driving kids to and from activities and getting dinner ready, I often had a moment of hesitation before I could bring myself to get back in the car at 6:45 p.m. and race to yoga.

I remember one night, in a moment of decision fatigue, asking Meredith, “Should I go to yoga tonight?” Her instant response was sweet and simple.

“You’ll never regret going to yoga.”

I’ve thought of that little truth often over the years when needing some motivation. Honestly, it helped my yoga practice stay strong and vibrant. The beauty of her advice is that it can apply to so many things in life. So when you’re tempted to pass, or to say you’re too busy or tired, here’s a little collection of things you will never regret doing. I hope they inspire you the way Meredith’s words did me.

• Making time in your day to practice yoga

• Taking a walk outside, even when it’s cold

• Going to Mass

• Calling your mom or dad, or son or daughter

• Being brave enough to ask someone who’s lost a loved one how they’re doing

• Having a dry night

• Buying flowers for yourself

• Performing your self-care regimen before you go to bed
